Exhibit

The Skywalker Graflex

Some slides in the original post were videos; still frames are shown here.

This exhibit was posted 3 times; photos from every post are combined here.

No introduction is needed for this iconic lightsaber. It was the first lightsaber to be lit on screen in A New Hope, paving the way for generations of lightsabers after it. Sometimes mistakenly called Luke’s lightsaber, it was in fact handed to Luke by Obi-Wan Kenobi as the lightsaber belonging to Luke’s father.

The original Skywalker Graflex lightsaber prop was built using parts of a vintage 3-cell Graflex flashgun and Texas Instruments Exactra calculator, among other things. (For accuracy references, see www.wannawanga.com.)

In this Exhibit, the lightsaber is a replica from Roman Props built in the configuration seen in A New Hope. The internal chassis of the lightsaber is designed by @mb_sabers and was the first MB assembled by Shane Craig of Dagobah Swamp back in 2020. Made of brass, steel, copper and aluminium, it features a dual crystal chamber and a Proffie 2.2 board controlling sound, light and a pixel blade.
